Bill Johnson says, "Jesus Christ is perfect theology!"
This is to mean that the whole Bible points to Jesus. If you find Jesus in the text, you are in the right direction. Of course this is backed by the testimony of Jesus himself, 'the scriptures testify of me'(Jn 5:39). And also backed by the passage that says,
"And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets,He explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself" (Lk 24:27).
Having made that point therefore let us find Jesus in this story.
“You can know for sure that your descendants will live in a land that is not their own, where they will be slaves, and they will be oppressed for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve, and after that they will come out with many possessions. 15 But you will die in peace and be buried at a very old age. 16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, because the sin of the Amorites will not have run its course until then.”
Gen 15:13-16
The prophecy tells us about what would be the fate of Abraham's descendants.Isaac was the first of them. And we know that Isaac is a type of Christ. So looking at the story as a message about Christ and his progeny, several things come to light.
Firstly, there is an implication that those who are born of the word would go into slavery! Isn't that interesting? How would that be fulfilled.
"Now you, brothers and sisters, are children of the promise like Isaac.Furthermore, at that time the son who was conceived in a natural way persecuted the son conceived in a spiritual way. That’s exactly what’s happening now. But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, because the son of the slave woman must never share the inheritance with the son of the free woman.” Brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave woman but of the free woman."
Gal 4:28-31
This was Paul's assessment of things when he later wrote describing the status of things as it was at his time. He seems to suggest that there was/is a battle for supremacy that was/is going on between the child of the flesh(Ishmael) and the child of the spirit(Isaac). Isaac similar to us was a child of promise. But if this is true, then it means there is a conflict going on and just like the prophecy in Gen 15 speaks of a time when God would step in to end the battle for supremacy, the implication is that there is coming a time when the 'sin of the Amorite' will be full and the vengeance of the Lord will take place again. And just like the first Passover occasioned this change of guard, the Passover this year was another one of that kind. The time has come when the domination of the child of the flesh has been terminated by the Lord himself as he has declared the day of vengeance.
Pentecost is just three days away. It has been 47 days since the Passover and now the changeover is imminent. In Acts 2, when the Spirit of God came to dwell in the disciples for the first time during the feast of first-fruits and thereby making them the first-fruits,this Pentecost the Lord has made an appointment with his bride. There is coming a new wave coming and you better be ready for this just like the five wise virgins, you cannot afford to run out of oil in your lamp now. Something big is in the offing.
It is now time for the child born of the Spirit to come to the fore. It is time for 'the city on a hill that cannot be hidden' to shine its light. It is time that the one who lights the lamp puts it on the lampstand so that all who come in can see.The whole world is about to behold Jesus in his glory exemplified in His body! The duration for the persecution is over!No more subjugation and slavery for the judgement of the wicked has been passed.
"Babylon is fallen, fallen"
“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”
Rev 18:2,20
It is time for kingdom economy to set the pace!
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost"
Isa 55:1
It has been several years, generation after generation of doing Christianity as a religion without seeing the spectacular nature of our heritage, what if it is time for the spectacular?
Do we have new wine-skins to contain this new wine? Can we take our place in the land flowing with milk and honey?
